2025 CARD CONFERENCE SPEAKER: How Culture Versus Race is More Impactful for Early Intervention Outreach When it Comes to Serving ASD Families

We will explore a critical topic that shapes how we approach and support individuals in the Autism community: Culture vs. Race. While both concepts play significant roles in identity and lived experiences, culture often holds a deeper impact when addressing the unique needs of Autistic individuals and their families.

Why? Because culture extends beyond physical attributes, influencing the very fabric of our daily lives—our values, traditions, and social structures. When serving the Autism community, these cultural nuances have profound implications on how families approach diagnosis, treatment, and long-term support.

Consider rural America: Here, cultural norms often emphasize close-knit communities and self-reliance, which can affect access to resources and openness to seeking external support. Or take religion, which can shape how families interpret Autism—sometimes as a gift, sometimes as a challenge, and often through the lens of faith-based practices.

Familial makeup plays a significant role, too. Whether in multigenerational households or single-parent families, cultural expectations influence caregiving roles and decision-making dynamics. Similarly, education systems, shaped by local cultural values, determine how inclusivity and awareness are integrated into schools. And, of course, socioeconomic differences, which are deeply tied to cultural contexts, affect access to therapies, technology, and advocacy networks.

While race provides a lens for understanding systemic disparities, it is culture that dictates how families navigate and respond to the realities of Autism. By understanding and embracing cultural differences, we can deliver more tailored, effective, and compassionate support to this diverse community.

As we dive deeper, I invite you to think about how cultural awareness can transform the way we serve, educate, and advocate for individuals with Autism. Together, we’ll uncover strategies to bridge gaps and build stronger, more inclusive support systems.

Let’s get started!

Monthly Blautism Education Podcast

I’m thrilled to announce that the Blautism Education Podcast has become the #1 space for understanding and discussing the rapidly changing landscape of Florida's education system. This platform is dedicated to providing clarity and insight into these changes, ensuring that no community is left behind in the conversation.

At Blautism Education, we are deeply committed to uplifting underserved communities, particularly those in rural America, where practicing care starts with respecting their unique way of life. These communities face significant challenges, especially in accessing timely information about shifts in the educational system. Too often, they are the last to find out, making it even harder to advocate for their children and families.

Our #1 initiative is to bridge this gap. To achieve this, we are excited to announce a future partnership with Step Up for Students. Together, we will ensure that rural communities are not only part of the discussion but also have access to the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed in this ever-changing educational environment.

Join us on the Blautism Education Podcast as we continue to shine a light on these critical issues, amplify the voices of underserved families, and work to create a more equitable and inclusive education system for all.”
